Introduction

The origins of the Ormond Stud can be traced back well into the beginning of the last century when my great grandfather Mr Samuel Davies registered the Ormond prefix with The Welsh Pony and Cob Society.  I feel very proud of the fact that I am indeed the fourth generation in our family to breed welsh ponies and cobs and feel very privileged to continue using Ormond as my prefix.

When my father S D Morgan married my mother and moved to Penparc, he adopted my grandfather D O Morgans Parc prefix, and I am sure as most of you know produced some wonderful and famous Cobs of the calibre of Parc Lady, Parc Rachel and of course Parc Welsh Flyer.  When my father passed away, I was left the super Section C Mare Parc Ruby as part of my inheritance in order to re-establish the Ormond Stud.  I had shown Ruby on many occasions winning medals and championships and winning The Royal Welsh on three occasions.  Ruby was now in the autumn of the years but still managed to produce four super fillies for us.  I have retained Parc Naiomi and Parc Lowri both by Parc Marvel and exported the other two fillies.  Parc Ruby was a rich bay mare by Synod Roger and out of Parc Annabel by Menai Fury.  Therefore naturally when I was looking to expand the stud I chose the Synod stud and purchased Synod Rich Girl by Synod Roger and Synod Rubyanna by Synod Apollo.  Rich Girl is a chestnut roan of outstanding quality and substance and produced a lovely colt for us out of Synod Rum Punch that we have named Ormond SD which we have retained for the future.  Rubyanna is a mare of outstanding beauty.  Indeed we are confident that these blood lines should provide a wonderful foundation for a successful stud.  Of course, baring in mind my father’s wise words that Section C’s should be of true pony type and not small cobs.

My Son Gethin is also very interested in breeding and showing the ponies and indeed was very successful at The National Welsh Championship Show in Shrewsbury when he was proclaimed Young Judge of the Year 2008 which made us all very proud.  A couple of years ago Gethin wanted to compete in the Young Handler classes at some of the local shows therefore we purchased a Section A Mare and that started us off on our Section A venture.  At the moment we have six brood mares all selected for their confirmation, type and blood lines.
